Cambodia
The Digital Literacy Initiative (DLI) in Cambodia is a programme of The Dariu Foundation. It is delivered by Plan International Switzerland in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT), with support from local non-governmental organisations and private sector partners. The aim is to prepare young people for the digital economy and to close the digital divide between town and countryside. Teachers in public schools are trained, and schools are supported in setting up Dariu Tech Clubs – spaces where young people develop their own projects in teams and build skills in problem-solving, teamwork, project management and leadership.
2025 was a turning point: cooperation with the relevant ministries deepened – digital education in Cambodia is no longer a side project, but a national priority. By the end of 2025, more than 3,600 students had been trained, 119 teachers upskilled, and 125 laptops delivered; nine Dariu Tech Clubs are active. The year’s high point was the Dariu Tech Club Showcase and Coding Challenge in December, where young people presented their own prototypes. At two pilot schools, we’re already going a step further: a new Tech Club model combines coding, applied AI, and entrepreneurial thinking.
By 2029, we’re expanding to a nationwide network of 66 Dariu Tech Clubs, led by 600 master trainers who train more than 4,100 teachers in total, reaching some 130,000 students. Through the Tech Clubs, 3,540 young people will build at least 200 projects of their own.
