Malaysia
In Malaysia, our partner Fondation Rolf Schnyder sees digital education as a long-term commitment to children’s futures. Through its Kids Bits & Bytes programme, the foundation introduces children in rural and indigenous communities, including preschool learners, to coding, computer science and artificial intelligence. Drawing on Computer Science Teachers Association standards and Code.org learning resources, the curriculum goes beyond technical skills to nurture personal responsibility, empathy and online safety.
In 2025, the foundation introduced an AI awareness curriculum for preschool children in partnership with Sarawak’s Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development. Delivered through a train-the-trainer model, the initiative extended across 107 SeDidik centres, equipping teachers to bring these learning opportunities into their classrooms.
The foundation also works with Universiti Teknologi Sarawak on the STEM Catalysts Festival, reaching more than 6,000 pupils from 160 rural schools annually. Across its initiatives, more than 7,500 children benefited in 2025, including children from marginalised and undocumented communities.
Malaysia’s Ministry of Education has also invited the organisation to contribute to the framework for AI-supported classrooms.
Looking ahead to 2027–2028, the foundation will expand these initiatives and continue its work with stateless and undocumented children.
This includes developing more student leaders to support their peers’ learning under teachers’ guidance, helping ease the demands on overstretched teachers while nurturing students’ confidence, responsibility and capacity to help others.
Underpinning this work is a shared conviction: every child deserves access to meaningful education and the opportunity to shape their own future.
